Home Office policy has seven aims:
* to reduce crime and the fear of crime;
* to reduce organised and international crime and to combat terrorism and other threats to national security;
* to ensure the effective delivery of justice;
* to deliver effective custodial and community sentences to reduce re-offending and protect the public;
* to reduce the availability and abuse of dangerous drugs;
* to regulate entry to and settlement in the UK effectively in the interest of sustainable growth and social inclusion;
* to support strong and active communications in which people of all races and backgrounds are valued and participate on equal terms.
