The National Lottery Commission is a non departmental public body set up under the National Lottery Act 1998. It is responsible for regulating the UK National Lottery. The Commission is headed by seven Commissioners.
The Commissions duties are to ensure that the National Lottery is run with all due propriety, that players' interests are protected, and subject to these, to maximise the money raised for the good causes. However, these duties do not include a responsibility for the distribution of funds.
The day to day operation of the lottery is undertaken by Camelot Group plc.
