English Heritage is a statutory body which gives grants to thousands of listed buildings, cathedrals, churches, archaeological sites, historic parks and gardens and ancient monuments across the country. By the imaginative re-use of the nation's historic buildings and by working closely with local authorities and others, they seek to spark the regeneration of the centres of cities, towns and villages. It has nine Regional Offices across the country and a Centre of Archaelogical Excellence at Fort Cumberland in Portsmouth.
It has a turnover of around 167.8 million of which 42.5 million is generated through admissions, membership, retail and catering, sponsorship and fundraising as well as through publications, suvey work and archive services. It manages over 400 of the nation's historic houses and monuments attracting 12 million visitors each year. These include Stonehenge, Dover Castle and Kenwood House.
