National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACOA)

The charity was founded in 1990 to address the plight of children growing up in families where one or both parents suffer from alcoholism or a similar addictive problem. This includes children of alcohol dependant parents of all ages, many of whose problems only become apparent in adulthood.

NACOA has adopted four broad aims:

* to offer information, advice and support to childern of alcohol dependant parents;
* to reach professionals who deal with children of alcohol dependant parents in their everyday work - educating them as to the specific needs of children of alcohol dependant parents;
* to raise the profile of children of alcohol dependant parents in the public consciousness;
* to promote research into the phenomenon of children of alcoholics.

There are a number of leaflets that NACOA publish.
