CND St Albans campaigns locally for the abolition of nuclear weapons and all other weapons of mass destruction. The group is affiliated to national CND. CND St Albans co-operates with other peace organisations in the area.
Annual membership is £3 (£1 unwaged) for individuals and £5 for a couple (Aug 2007). The group issues its newsletter 'Newstand', through which members are kept informed of local and national peace activities.
The group continues to oppose the occupation of Iraq. CND believes that differences between nations must be settled by negotiation not by war, as even minor wars can lead to major conflagrations. There are now more nuclear nations than there were during the Cold War and the possibility that conflicts will involve nuclear weapons is greater than ever.
CND's major campaigning issues are:
* Pressing the UK Government fo fulfil its obligation under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Agreement to negotiate the removal of Britain's nuclear weapons, including its Trident Nuclear Submarines.
* Pressing the UK Government to withdraw its support for the US 'Star Wars' project.
* Removal of all nuclear weapons from the territory of the U.K.
