The objects of the Association are to relieve hardship, need or distress amoung those men and women who served in His Majesty's or Armed Forces or in the Nursing Services in the Burma Campaign of the '39-45 war' and to promote the comradeship experienced in the bitter fighting in the jungles of Burma, and to set up a welfare organisation so that holders and widows in need can be given assistance.
The Burma Star Association is non-political and non-sectarian and has permanent representatives from the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force and the Royal British Legion on the National Council.
To become a full member of the Association an ex-Serviceman, ex-Servicewoman, Merchant Seaman or Nurse must have been awarded the Burma Campaign Star for service in Burma during World War II for the necessary qualifying period or the Pacific Campaign Star with Burma Clasp.
