The Royal British Legion is a charity established:
* to promote the welfare of serving and ex-Service men and women, and the widows, children and dependents of those who have served, and to relieve hardship where it exists;
* to raise and distribute money for the above purposes;
* to co-operate with other organisations with similar objectives.
St Albans Branch Welfare Officer is there to look after the welfare needs of local ex-service men and women and their dependents. The Legion runs a number of residential and convalescent homes, as well as giving training and resettlement advice to those leaving the armed forces. The Pensions Department and War Graves Pilgrimages Department are part of the Welfare Division.
St Albans Branch organises the local Poppy Appeal in St Albans each November and the Remembrance Service at the city War Memorial.
Social activities are also provided by the Legion and there is an RBL Social Club open daily. Associate members welcome. The Committee meets at 8.00pm, on the 2nd Monday in the month.
The RBL Social Club is open in the evenings from 7.00pm to 11.00pm and anyone can come in for a quiet drink or two, or maybe join in and have game of dominoes or play a hand of crib. If you are feeling alittle more energetic you could enjoy a game of pool or darts and perhaps think about joining on of the teams run by the Club.
On Saturdays the RBL social club is open from 11.00am through to the evening when there is either live music or karaoke. Sometimes there is an event night i.e. fancy dress but still with live music and now and again a disco.
