The ATC is a national youth organisation with some 1000 units throughout the UK including a successful Squadron in Bishop’s Stortford. Membership is open to all young people aged 13-18. Activities include flying, gliding, shooting, adventure training, sports (including athletics, swimming, netball, hockey, rugby and football) and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
The aims of Bishop’s Stortford Squadron is to:
* To promote and encourage, among young people, a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force.
* To provide training which will be useful both in the Services and civilian life.
* To foster the spirit of adventure and to develop the qualities of leadership and good citizenship.
Bishop’s Stortford Squadron is a particularly active unit with staff qualified to deliver a wide variety of specialist training subjects. The Squadron benefits in attracting staff from an aviation background, given its proximity to Stansted Airport. The CO is, however, always keen to hear from other motivated individuals who may have some spare time to train youngsters or assist as adult volunteers in the running of the Squadron.
