Hertfordshire Beekeeper's Association, founded in 1878, has 7 active divisions - South East Herts, North Herts, St Albans and Hemel Hempstead, Bishops Stortford, Welwyn, Barnet and West Herts. Each division arranges its own meetings throughout the year to which anyone interested in bees is welcome. Some divisions have honey extractors for hire. The benefits of joining HBKA include 10 newsletters each year (called Herts Bees) giving news and details of instructional and social meetings around the Divisions. HBKA members automatically become members of the British Beekeepers Association (BBKA), receive BBKA News and are insured for bee diseases and third party risks. A beekeeping course is run by St Albans and Barnet divisions. HBKA gives an annual “Bee World” exhibition in Capel Manor in the autumn, demonstrating the work of the beekeeper to the public.
All divisions have a Swarm Officer who will be able to advise you on any bee problems you might have. The Swarm Officer may offer to remove bee swarms depending on location. The public should contact the nearest swarm officer:
