Herts Young Homeless Group

The overall objective of Herts Young Homeless Group (HYHG) is to prevent homelessness amongst young people (aged 16 to 25) and where they do become homeless support them to access accommodation and support appropriate to their needs.

Under 16's Mediation Service
We provide free mediation to young people aged 10-15 and their families when they are having conflict at home as an early intervention to prevent homelessness. We accept referrals from professionals and families. Please contact us for further information.

Advice, Information and Mediation
Through assessing the needs of the young person the Advice and Information worker will refer young people into the relevant support services. If homelessness cannot be prevented, the service will support a young person in accessing appropriate accommodation. Mediators work with young people to help both them and their families find solutions to relationship problems.

Crashpad
Crashpad offers safe, emergency accommodation for homeless 16 and 17 year olds and care leavers (up to the age of 21). It operates across Hertfordshire to support young people in housing need and forms part of the Young Persons Homeless Prevention Service.

Floating Support
Floating Support will normally begin once a service user is placed in emergency or temporary accommodation, although support can be offered at an earlier stage, such as when an individual is still at home, or living with friends. A floating support worker will visit service users in their accommodation and offer support in such areas as paying rent, budgeting, managing benefits, and accessing healthcare. They can also make referrals to other agencies such as Drug and Alcohol services, mental health services, social services and training providers.
