Hertfordshire County Council's Broxbourne Day Centres, provide services for up to 300 adults daily.
People from in and around the area who may have a physically disability, suffer from mental confusion or have needs associated with ageing attend the centres. Most of our centres are open from 10am to 3pm on various days from Monday to Friday in all parts of the borough.
We offer people who use our services maximum choice by working in an open and accessible way, treating everyone with fairness and respect, meeting their individual needs, and letting people enjoy themselves in a happy, sociable atmosphere, by making friends and using the facilities, activities and equipment at the centres.
The activities we provide vary from group to group and depend on the wishes and skills of members. People can take part in (to name only some of what we offer) handicrafts, games, singing, poetry, reading, outings, pub lunches, seaside trips, indoor gardening, painting, book lending, quizzes, gentle keep-fit, movement to music, discussion groups, audio and visual shows, attend talks and advice sessions and use computers.
We also offer people the opportunity to discover new interests through college courses and Employment Direct (now part of Work Solutions), a service which offers those with a disability who live in Hertfordshire, recruitment, training, advice and support.
Our staff come from a variety of backgrounds and have extensive training and experience of working with people with differing disabilities and needs.
Every centre user is allocated a linkworker, a member of staff who provides individual support. Everyone also has a care plan, agreed with them, and tailored to their individual needs which is reviewed regularly.
A hot lunch is provided at a moderate charge. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served on arrival, at lunch time and mid-afternoon.
The centre is fully accessible for anyone with mobility problems, including wheelchair users
We ask people not to smoke at any of our establishments. There are designated areas where smoking is allowed outside the buildings.
Transport is not automatically provided for people attending Adult Care Services. User’s needs will be assessed by the local Adult Care Services Area Teams to see if any support is needed with travel, and a variety of options will be explored. Where it is identified that the person requires specialist transport, the Area Team worker will arrange for it. Where transport is provided by Adult Care Services there is a charge to the person of £2 per return journey if they are assessed as being able to pay.
If you would like to attend you need to contact your social worker or occupational therapist. Alternatively, you can contact our Customer Service Centre: details can be found by selecting the link on the left of this page called 'Contact us'.
