Telecare - keeping you safe at home

Telecare Telecare services help vulnerable people live in their own home with greater safety and independence. They use a range of technologies which raise alerts to get help if it is needed. They work 24 hours a day, every day of the year providing security and peace of mind.

The services available are
  • detectors for smoke, carbon monoxide, gas escape, fall, fit or faint and floods
  • sensors to detect a lack of movement, if someone has left the house at an unsafe time or has not returned to bed after getting up in the middle of the night
  • bogus caller button if someone is unsure of a caller at the door
Please see the Telecare leaflet for more detail. You can view or order it by using the Adult Care Services Publications link and navigating to the Staying independent section.

In order to use telecare equipment, you need to be connected to a basic community alarm service, generally provided by your local council, for which there may be a small weekly charge. Use the link below to find out how you can get a community alarm.

Telecare special equipment is provided free for some people by Adult Care Services. If you are not eligible for free telecare you may be able to lease or buy it.

A resident carer's alert which alerts a carer in the same house that the person they care for is moving around is also available. It doesn’t require connection to an alarm service and is free through health and social care staff.

IMPORTANT: This page is a summary of information about Telecare services. Full information is in the leaflet Telecare - Keeping you safe at home published by Adult Care Services.
