Staying independent - adapting your home when you're disabled
There are many ways that your home can be adapted to meet your needs. Even the smallest change, such as adding a grab rail, can make a big difference.
Initially, an occupational therapist would assess your needs, and make recommendations as to what would help you. These may be minor adaptations such as grab rails, bath or stair rails, ramps up to doors etc, or major adaptations which require structural alterations to be made.
IMPORTANT: These pages are a summary of services available for disabled people of all ages. Full information is in leaflets published by Adult Care Services.
