Fulfilling Lives

A government paper called
'Valuing People' told all services in the country that they need to give people more chances to take part in the same activities as everybody else in the community.
This means making changes to the services.
Fulfilling lives is the name of a project that is working to give people more choice about what they do during the day.
Part of the work this project is doing is to make changes to learning disability day services. We are moving away from big isolated buildings that are away from community life, instead we are moving towards services delivered in a more inclusive way within the community. In addition to our own sites we will be using local facilities and building new and exciting partnerships to give more choice and bring services closer to where people live where possible.
Service users are being involved in this process and will have support to work out what is right for them and make plans for these changes.
We have communication plans for each area and we are holding many information sessions, including offering 1:1 meetings and tours for Carers. We are also working closely with other organisations such as Carers in Hertfordshire.
A DVD giving some examples of the new services and information about the changes is available. For a copy please contact Kim Warwick - 01438 844083.
Valuing people now: from progress to transformation - a consultation on the next three years of learning disability policy has taken place and findings will be published shortly. For more information go to
