A guide to our services
Hertfordshire County Council’s Baldock Day Service is a day centre that provides services for up to 40 adults daily.
People from in and around the Baldock, Letchworth and Royston areas who have learning disabilities, special needs and challenging behaviour attend the centre between one and four days a week.
The centre is open from 8.45am to 4.30pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and from 8.45am to 5.15pm on Wednesdays.
People who use the centre attend between 9am and 3.45pm, Monday to Friday.
What we offer
We build on people’s abilities and enable them to make more choices and to develop their skills.
We do this within a safe, caring and supportive environment and in a way that gives encouragement, builds self-confidence and skills and treats each person with respect.
Our aim is to improve the quality of life for everyone that uses our centre and its services.
People have different needs so the service we provide is tailored to the individual.
We have many opportunities on offer including work experience, building social skills and leisure activities. Music or speech therapy can be arranged if required.
We run a large range of centre-based activities including dance and movement, music therapy, speech therapy, relaxation and aromatherapy, creative crafts, health and beauty and cookery sessions.
We help people to get involved in activities outside the centre like ten-pin bowling, horseriding, and visits to the local farm.
We can also organise opportunities for people to attend college courses.
Community-based support
We believe that everyone is a valued member of the community and has the right to use its facilities.
We arrange a variety of community-based activities and services for more independent individuals who do not attend the centre.
With support and encouragement from staff, they have opportunities to find out for themselves what is available and become more involved in the life of their local community.
We have a close relationship with North Hertfordshire College, which offers nationally accredited courses to enhance social and educational skills.
About the staff
Our staff come from a variety of backgrounds and have extensive training and experience of working with people with differing disabilities and needs.
Every centre user is allocated a linkworker, a member of staff who provides individual support.
Everyone also has a care plan, agreed with them, and tailored to their individual needs which is reviewed regularly.
Lunch and refreshments
A choice of lunch, for which there is a set charge, is offered everyday.
Drinks are also available, for a small charge, throughout the day.
Accessibility
The centre is fully accessible for anyone with mobility problems, including wheelchair users.
Smoking
We ask people not to smoke at any of our establishments.
There are designated areas where smoking is allowed outside the buildings.
Transport is not automatically provided for people attending Adult Care Services. User’s needs will be assessed by the local Adult Care Services Area Teams to see if any support is needed with travel, and a variety of options will be explored.
Where it is identified that the person requires specialist transport, the Area Team worker will arrange for it.
Where transport is provided by Adult Care Services there is a charge to the person of £2 per return journey if they are assessed as being able to pay.
