Choices in Childcare - introductory training course

Choices in Childcare is a free short course developed by Young In Herts especially for people who may be interested in working with children. The course will give you information that will enable you to make an informed choice about whether you wish to work in this field and about the area of childcare you would like to work in.

There are many opportunities for developing a career in childcare at the moment as the industry is expanding rapidly. By enrolling on a Choices in Childcare workshop, you will be able to demonstrate to prospective employers that you have given careful consideration as to whether working with children is right for you.

workshop objectives
  • Identify the main points of the Career Choices Programme.
  • To explore our early experiences of Play and Learning.
  • Identify Skills and Qualities.
  • Identify a range of settings.
  • Identify the values and Principles for Early Years and Play-work.
  • Take part in a fun activity workshop.
  • Develop an understanding about the laws, regulations and procedures in Childcare.
  • Develop an understanding of the Local and National Childcare Strategy.
  • Develop an understanding of the QCA Framework.
  • Deciding on the Way Ahead.
The workshops will run from 10.00 to 4.00 and lunch is included.

In addition to informing you of the roles and skills needed to work in childcare this workshop also gives you access to formal qualification training and taster sessions at childcare settings
