Nursery managers
Nursery managers oversee the running of the nursery including the staffing and materials. Duties include supervision of staff, encouraging development and training, maintaining records for inspections, liaising with staff, parents, children and professionals, monitoring changes, looking at the implications for the nursery and considering ways to improve the childcare services offered.
An example of someone who became a Nursery Manager
Helen spent 9 years working in a factory. Although she wanted to work with children it was not until she was made redundant that she thought seriously about her future. Helen had a NAMCW Diploma and started voluntary work in day-care. After 3 months, she took a temporary contract at the nursery followed by a permanent post and has now had four promotions to deputy nursery manager. During this time Helen studied at home for an ICS Diploma in Childcare and Child Psychology. Studying part-time she followed this with an Advanced Diploma in Childcare and Education. “I find my career both rewarding and challenging with no two days the same”.
