Summary of the Early Years Admissions proposals and results

Ey Admissions Image

Thank you to all those who responded to the recent Early Years Admissions Consultation, we received a high level of responses. The consultation proposals and results are below.

Proposal One: That the nursery admissions process should be coordinated locally rather than centrally from 2009.

Cabinet decision
It has been agreed to continue with the planned change to locally administer admissions but delay implementation for a year until 2010 to allow the process and the infrastructure to be developed.

Proposal Two: That Hertfordshire should move away from the guidance in the Early Learning Plan of two intake dates for nursery and reception classes (September and January) and move towards a single intake date in September.

Cabinet decision
It has been agreed to continue to recommend two intake dates for nursery and reception admissions, and pupil funding will be allocated on this basis.

Early Years Admissions Guidance

The Early Years Advisory Service has developed guidance to support early years settings by highlighting the issues that need to be considered when admitting young children in to school. We hope it provides a useful checklist to all Nursery and Primary schools with the introduction of the Early Years Foundation Stage in September.
