At the time of the assessment (Summer 2007) we found that:

• North Hertfordshire had a total population of 119,929 people, this equated to 11.8% of the population of Hertfordshire. 22,766 (19%) of the North Hertfordshire population were aged 0 – 14 years.
  
• The data suggests there was an adequate number of childcare places available for children in this area, however, there was a gap identified between the supply and demand for early morning care

The following number of places were available in North Hertfordshire:

• Childminder places (0 – 8) – 979
  
• Childminder places (0 – 14) – 979
  
• Full Day Care places – 1,031
  
• Sessional Day Care places – 787
  
• Out of School places – 660
