At the time of the assessment (Summer 2007) we found that:

• Dacorum had a total population of 138,016 people, this equated to 13.6% of the population of Hertfordshire. 26,411 (19%) of the Dacorum population were aged 0 – 14 years
  
• Dacorum had an above average number of children between 0-14, therefore, there is likely to be a higher demand for childcare in this locality.

The following number of places was available in Dacorum:

• Childminder places (0 – 14) – 1,195
  
• Full day care places – 1,263
  
• Sessional day care places – 817
  
• Out of school places – 966
