The assessment process for children with Special Needs

Your local Disability Team provide an assessment of need to disabled children and young people and their families, and will arrange a variety of support to meet these assessed needs. These include;

• Adaptations to the family home to maximise the disabled person's opportunity for independent living
• Homecare to support carers in meeting the needs of the disabled child/young person
• Support to enable the disabled child/young person to participate in social and community activities
• Respite care, to give carers and siblings with a break and to provide the disabled young person with a positive experience of living outside the family home.
