Care and support

Where to look for help and advice

Transferring from Primary School to Secondary School

If your child is at the School Action Stage of the Code of Practice, it is the responsibility of the current school that your child is attending to send all relevant information to the receiving school. This includes Individual Education Plans and any other necessary information that will enable the new school to support your child’s educational needs.

If your child is at the School Action plus Stage of the Code of Practice, this information will also include reports for key professionals such as an Educational Psychologist or an Advisory Teacher.

Earmarked Pupil Funding

If your child is in receipt of Earmarked Pupil Funding and transfers to a new school the funding will transfer with them for the remainder of the period that is allocated. The new school can then make a further submission in the usual way for the continuation of funding.

Statement of Special Educational Needs

If your child has a Statement of Special Educational Needs, any change in provision is a result of recommendations from the Statutory Annual Review Meeting. The Annual review offers a chance for parents/carers and other key professionals to contribute their views regarding any issues concerning the child, including school.

Transferring between types of school

If a decision is reached that your child should transfer to another school/ type of provision then there will be consideration of appropriate support needed for your child to assist them in settling in.
