Primary Support Bases (PSBs)

Primary Support Bases are part of Hertfordshire’s strategy to improve the behaviour and achievement of a small minority of pupils with significant emotional and behavioural problems.

Bases provide an intensive period of support for pupils with severe difficulties, many of whom may be at risk of permanent exclusion. Following this support most pupils are able to continue in a mainstream setting. However, base staff may also support schools in applying for formal assessment, which may result in the child being admitted to the permanent roll of the base school or to a special school.

Whatever the outcome bases should be able to provide support to pupils and schools quickly. This means that the distress suffered by the child, their families, their classmates and their teachers is minimised.

Selecting the school name in the table below will take you to more information about that school:
School name Number of places
Andrew's Lane 12*
Berrygrove 12*
Bowmansgreen 12*
Chambersbury 12*
Radburn 12*
Springmead 12*
Summerswood 12*
The Leys 12*
Westfield 12*

*Within each Primary Support Base there are up to 6 permanent places within the school and a further 6 places for extended roll pupils. Short periods of respite (up to a maximum of a term) can, with the agreement of the headteacher, be arranged for extended roll pupils who are then taught in the base classroom at the host school. The maximum number of pupils who can be on respite at any one time is 2.
