Where to look for help and advice

Taking a Break

There are a range of services that are available to families with disabled children. These include respite and shared care. The Disabled Children’s Teams can offer these services, after an assessment.

Emergency Breaks can be offered to families who are not known by the Disabled Children’s Team or who are awaiting assessment.

Information on this page also includes long term residential care for disabled children.

Breaks can also be offered via disabled children and young people attending play schemes and clubs. Use the Special needs: leisure section link on the right for more information.
