What do CAMHS do?

Staff that work with CAMHS provide the following services.
  • Assess and treat emotional, behavioural, psychological and psychiatric problems.
  • Use various types of therapy to work through issues a child or young person maybe having.
  • Help children, young people and their families to manage existing emotional, psychological and behavioural problems.
  • Enhance children and young people’s resilience to enable them to deal with any stress in their lives more effectively
  • Explore feelings and issues that are present within a family or setting in which the child or young person lives that may affect behaviour and emotions.
  • When appropriate CAMHS can access in patient facilities for children and young people whom they consider to be a particular risk to themselves and / or others.
