CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services)

What is CAMHS?

CAMHS is the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. It is comprised of professionals who provide advice, assessment and treatment on emotional, behavioural and / or mental health problems that require specialist support. CAMHS work with children and young people from 0-18 years and their families across the county provided that they have a Hertfordshire GP.

As well as working in health settings like child and family clinics, CAMHS staff are also located in a number of services across Hertfordshire, details of which can be found under ‘How Can I access CAMHS?’

Many different types of professionals work within CAMHS across the county in order to be able to treat the needs of children and young people with a wide range of issues as effectively as possible. The types of staff include family therapists and psychologists.

What do CAMHS deal with?

The types of problems seen by CAMHS can include depression, anxiety, aggression, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders and schizophrenia.
