Behaviour and Discipline

Schools aim to create an environment where everyone feels safe, secure and valued. Children are happiest and learn most effectively in these conditions and parents, working with schools, have an important role to play.
All schools have
Behaviour Policies, which set out their expectations for pupils’ behaviour. As a parent it is important that you know what it says and actively encourage your child to follow it.
The Education Act 1997 requires the Governing Bodies of LEA schools to set the framework for the school’s discipline policy. The headteacher must draw up a discipline policy and make it known at least once a year to pupils, parents/carers and staff.
To provide an environment in which children learn effectively, it is important that everyone in school:
- is treated with kindness and respect
- acts with consideration towards others, making sure that their words and actions do not cause offence or inconvenience to anyone
- behaves courteously, being polite and helpful at all times
- is friendly and co-operative
- is honest and truthful
