Shared carers offer planned support either in their own homes or in the child’s home. Following an assessment, both families are carefully matched and introduced to each other so that the best possible arrangements for each child can be worked out.
All children benefit from contact outside their immediate family. Plus, being with other people can provide extra stimulation and help them to make valuable social contacts. The interest and friendship of a shared carer can benefit both the children and their parents. It allows children to become more independent, visit new places and meet new friends, while their parents get a break from full time caring.
