What must I do if I intend to, or already, foster a child privately?
The law requires that you tell us at least 6 weeks before the arrangement begins that you intend to privately foster a child, unless the arrangement is made in an emergency in which case the notification must be made within 48 hours. It is an offence not to notify us within the time specified.
What if the child leaves my care?
You must tell us within 48 hours that the child has left your care. You must also give the name and address of the person who will be caring for the child.
Where can I get more information?
Private foster carers can contact us for advice on caring for the child they are privately fostering. There may, in certain cases, be help available for children deemed to be 'in need' of services under the Children Act. For more information contact the county council’s customer service centre on 01438 737 500.
