Care and support

Where to look for help and advice

I'm in Foster Care

If you are in foster care or a care leaver in Hertfordshire, your foster carer will probably be acting on your behalf, or with you, to ensure that you are getting all the help and support that you need and are entitled to. You should also be receiving support from the local authority. There will probably be other people, such as members of your family, who will be supporting or encouraging you too.

However if you are not happy with any aspect of your care, there are a number of local and national organisations which you may wish to contact.

They will talk with you about your concerns, and can give you some support.

These organisations include:

VCC The Voice for the Child in Care
Hertfordshire Advocacy Service
Breaks Manor
Link Drive
Hatfield
Herts
AL10 8TP

Freefone: 0800 08530745 OR 01707 270169
e-mail: vccherts@vcc-uk.org.

Other organisations that could help you are:

The Who Cares Trust. They can be contacted on 0800 564570 or 0500 464570 (the Who Cares Link Line).

Who Cares produces a regular magazine for young people in public care and invite young people to share their experiences with them. They have lots of useful information.

Other organisations you could contact are:

Childline on 0800 1111.

National Youth Advocacy Service on 0151 6498700 or e-mail them at Help@hyas.net.
