Family Centres (Refurbishment)
Design Approach
The existing Family Centres at Crossbrook and Fleetville require extensive refurbishment in order to upgrade the internal environment and enhance their external appearance.
At present both buildings have a drab, institutional character and the quality and design of the existing facilities are inadequate for the needs of the young people they serve.
After a thorough inspection of the existing facilities and the development and evaluation of the project brief, we have identified the following principles as crucial to the success of these refurbishment schemes:
The internal character of both schemes would benefit from a comprehensive remodelling and redecoration, utilising colour, new fixtures and fittings, improved lighting and the use of natural daylight to create meaningful spaces in a warm, safe and friendly environment.
The internal spaces will be redefined and reorganised to better meet the functionality and operational needs of the centres. Wasted space will be used to provide additional rooms, and routes through the buildings will be created to provide clear separation of the functions of each space and for access.
The briefs for both centres require extensions to be built for additional accommodation. We have created striking, contemporary, architectural designs, which will help liven up the exterior of the buildings and be instrumental in the re-branding of these centres from bland, institutional facilities to modern, vibrant centres for the youth community. Where possible, new landscaping design will provide additional enhancement to the external environment.
