Care and support

Where to look for help and advice

Hertfordshire County Council's services for carers

Hertfordshire County Council provide a number of services to assist carers. Much of the help most useful to you could be in the form of support provided to the person you care for, giving you a bit of 'time out'. This could include help in the home; a centre or activity for the person you care for to go to during the day; a place to stay for a short while; adaptations or equipment in the home; benefits information and advice.

Sometimes you may need to have a break from your role as a carer. There are a range of services which can look after people while you have a break, in residental care homes, or for short breaks in your own home. See the link below for information on breaks.

Sometimes you may need something just for you: help with transport, practical tasks, something to help you relax, to help you reduce your stress, or maybe a course to help you get back to work. Sometimes our staff will be able to help to point you to services in the community to help you, sometimes it may be possible to get a Carers Grant to get what you need. Your care worker will be able to give you more advice about this.
