Where to look for help and advice

Services to help carers

Much of the help most useful to you could be in the form of support provided to the person you care for, giving you a bit of 'time out'. This could include help in the home; a centre or activity to go to during the day; a place to stay for a short while; adaptations or equipment in the home; benefits information and advice.

Sometimes you may need to have a break from your role as a carer. The Carers Grant is Government money given to the council to help carers have a break. This can be used very flexibly, to provide you with what you need when you need it. Your care worker will be able to give you more advice about this.

We are also piloting new services for carers who are under pressure, but whose needs are not met by current services. These carers' services may include domestic help or help with transport etc. to make your life as a carer easier.

IMPORTANT: These pages are a summary of services for carers. Further information is in leaflets published by Adult Care Services. To view the full text of the leaflets online, or order copies, please use the Adult Care Services Publications link and navigate to the Carers section.
