Tax credits

Tax credits are means-tested payments administered by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

Child tax credit (CTC) is paid to lone parents or couples with children. You can claim this whether you are working or not and it is paid directly to the main carer of the children. CTC can be claimed on its own or along with working tax credit. CTC can be paid to families with gross annual income of up to around £58,000 per year (£66,000 if you have a child under one) and more in some cases.

Working tax credit (WTC) is for people who work who are on a low income, with or without children. Some disabled workers can get extra working tax credit.
