Appointees

If you cannot act for yourself, your parent or another adult can be appointed to take over the management of your claim for any social security benefit, including incapacity benefit, income support and disability living allowance. Your parent becomes the appointee and can sign claim forms on your behalf. However, if you are able to act for yourself, you can sign any claim for yourself. Your parent does not have to become your appointee.
