In 2008 the winter fuel payment will be £250 for anyone aged 60 on or before 15th September 2008 or £400 for anyone aged 80 on or before 15th September 2008.
People in care homes may get winter fuel payment but not if they get any pension credit (guarantee credit or savings credit). You count as living in a care home if you are in a home in the qualifying week (beginning 15th September 2008) and have been there for the 12 preceding weeks, ignoring temporary absences. Those in residential care who do qualify (such as people not getting pension credit) get £100 if they are aged 60 or more and £150 if they are aged 80 or more.
