Ordnance Survey

The Ordnance Survey (OS) has been making maps of Great Britain for more than 200 years. OS products are now stored, produced and used digitally, rather than as printed maps. Hertfordshire County Council have many of these digital products and processes them into a format suitable for the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) used within the council.

OS map data is supplied through The Public Sector Mapping Agreement and used under licence.

All Ordnance Survey data is copyright and it is a legal requirement that an appropriate OS copyright acknowledgement is displayed alongside all copies, whether in digital or hardcopy form. 'Ordnance Survey' is a registered trade mark of Ordnance Survey.

Free Ordnance Survey Mapping from OS OpenData™ OS data free to download and reuse. The Government have released a range of Ordnance Survey data and products for free from 1 April 2010, known as OS OpenData™. You can see and download the free data from www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/opendata/

Not all OS mapping and data are included however. At present Hertfordshire County Council have no plans to release any of its derived mapping (such as Public Rights of Way) as these are not based on products included in OS OpenData™.
